I can't seem to rest

You're worn out and yet rest keeps slipping away, as if your body has forgotten how to power down. There's a special frustration in being this tired and still unable to settle, and none of it is your fault. A mind that won't rest is usually a mind that has been on guard for a very long time. You don't have to force yourself into calm — just being here, doing nothing, already counts as a kind of rest.

Read one, sit with it, and draw as many more as you need.

Exhausted

I can't seem to rest

When you finally have a moment to rest, your mind keeps sprinting and your body won't settle. That wired-but-exhausted state is real, and it isn't your fault.

More comforting words for this feeling

  • Rest feels impossible partly because some part of you believes stopping isn't allowed. That belief was installed somewhere; it isn't the truth, and it can be unlearned.

  • You lie down and the to-do list starts shouting. The restlessness isn't proof you're lazy at resting; it's proof you've been running on alert for too long.

  • Sometimes the body forgets how to relax after bracing for so long. Be patient with it; learning to rest again is a slow, gentle relearning, not a switch you flip.
